After a long hiatus and a chance encounter at a LFS Im back to MFKing!

I stumbled upon three H. armatus at a lfs and let just say they exactly werent labeled as, nor priced as the species! :headbang2

Two had ick, I put them on hold and grabbed the one that didnt. I dont even have a freshwater tank right now but I am going to grab one tomorrow.

For the newbies, I do have some experience with the species and was perhaps the first person in the US to his off of live food. I came up with the "jigging" method as I am now seeing it called several years ago.

Im SUPER excited!

Awesome! Welcome back bro!

Always nicer to see someone come back than someone to leave;)

post pics! I got my armatus off live by starving. Jigging didn't work for me.

Far as I'm concerned you never left... Congrats all the same !!

Pretty bold statement there..... ;) Mine was broke on 10-30-07 :D

But neither of us had any of the Armatus G brought in and Lil Neet had one way before Gs shipment.

 Hey, the newbs aren't gonna heckle you so someone has to....

Great to see you back man! Glad to see the fever got the best of you again. :D

You got me beat by a couple of months then. I couldnt find any verified proof when I got mine off live, nor have I seen anyone using fishing line and dead food to get the armatus off live.

To make it work you must jig it really really fast.

Ive got him settled in a 29 gallon right now with a Marineland 400 filter as well as a pump and airstones. I used some filter cartridges from an established tank of a friend of mines.

I threw in a few mosquito fish (guppies) from the back yard in but he hasnt eaten them yet. I also have a blanket over the tank because he is extremely skittish and the tank is in the kitchen. The tank is bare, just glass and water and will stay like that. Once he settles down I may add something in there for him to hide so I can take off the blanket.

Im looking for a 185+ for now. A local shark museum is closing down and has a 600 gallon tank for sale. Im friends with the owner so Im hoping to get my hands on that!

Now the real question is should I go back for the other two and have three armatus for less then the price of one?!

The crazy thing is, I live in a small town well over a couple hundred miles from a decent population center and to see one locally, let alone three was a real shock to me!

The fishing line trick is all yours!!! I think a lot of us just got lucky with the krill. I remember jigging helping a lot of people.

I vote get the others!!! To get 3 for less then $50? It would be silly not to!

A 600 would definitely give them some room to stretch out. And give you room for some flat fish.... ;)
