I'M DONE WITH AROs

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
ALL SILVER AROWANAS ARE ABOUT 75% GUARANTEED TO GET DROP EYE! I've seen people on other forums ranting about thier silver's drop eye. They will all get it eventually. It doesn't make them a bad fish just cuz one of their eyes drops. They still look unique. All the silvers I see at my store have drop eye. To keep your silver from getting drop eye, it is nearly impossible. Some people suggested to my friend on another fourm that you should put a ping ball (forgot what it's called but my tooth hurts now and I'm about to pass out so I'm just guessing) to keep their head up or something like that.
As for them jumping out, it's their natural instinct to. They do it in the wild a lot. That's how they eat sometimes. They'll jump out for crickets, flies, worms, anything insect or bird if large enough. I think that's pretty unique in it'self. Although I don't have a tank big enough to house one, yet I plan on getting an arowana by 2020 when I have my own house and a big tank. In an Aquarium, yes the Arowana's jumping ablitly maybe decreased but they are still gonna get that jumping itch. The tank needs to be covered always. Even during water changes. I suggest to keep the water level as low as possible. If there are any flying insects near your tank, that can be a factor in jumping as well. Or it can be as simple as their gut instict telling them to jump.
I think you shouldn't give up on Silver Arowanas. They are a pretty cool and unique creature. They just need to be cared for properly and given a lot of attention to avoid them from jumping out.

research is the key. It's well known that Arowana's jump . good water quality & a hefty lid should keep your Arro in the tank . @jrichardson he said it was his dog that ragged his fish not a cat.
I agree drop eye sucks

With this last one I just tried to leave it be as much as possible since all the others I cared too much about and things happened. So lesson learned. Shoulda zip tied the cover opening covers I made. Oh well too late to moap. Think I'm done with aros.... for now anyway. Thi width of this tank was awesome for one tho. Meh...

Hi there, i'm new here. Sorry to hear that ur previous experiences weren't so lucky. If only u lived nearby, i'd be happy to donate one for u to start over again.

what size is your tank takenotes? i always custom make my lid to keep my aro in but they still manage to break the glass (1/4") thick.. but my aro is a monster so he manage to break the glass.. i have a 180 with the lids of the tank custom made to lock inplace. when i have time i'll snap some pics to show you..

I've had it for about year. So maybe not the same post. And thanks. Think I won't be adding any fish for now. Already have some rays pending and some stuff has to go long term anyway

I read through all that? Yes. Some people do not bother and readily lambast the OP, some have it in their nature (from that same obnoxious person). This is what I think. There is nothing you can do with drop eye. As for the jumping, you cannot go for 5th nor you can go for another top dweller in that tank. You have rays, with an "s". You will have to find something taller if you plan to keep jumpy fish. A single defensive strike will send your whole tank in a jumping frenzy. Even if you have a cover, you'll end up with dead fish from headbutting the cover or the glass. It is also good to vent from time to time. Keeps us wanting to do this hobby or the silver in your case. Just do not forget to state it. People are easy to jump to conclusions or too lazy to read. Actually, if I didn't read Miguel's post, I would have jumped in the same boat.
