i am interested in the taste of gar, but as everyone said i wouldn't eat that one...is gator the best tasting one? this would be usefull when i go bowfishing for them...

gators are the biggest species, so you're going to get a larger cut of meat from them. the rest of them are generally smaller...i have had spotted that was pretty good too. i would imagine a big longnose would also work, and in Mexico and other parts of CA tropical gar is a big traditional food item--

i may have to go down to the river and try to shoot a long nose first before i go on my south gator and gator gar trip...

You've given tons of great info in this thread. Keep it up. Its awesome this site has tons of people that actually know what they are talking about!

I'm sure you've told everyone before but is your job related to fish? Gar research specifically?
 
It is called cataan down here, gars are good to eat.
