goldfish are what i would consider a strong fish for the hobby. once you've been around the block and experienced all the fancy exotic fish, you can start to appreciate them. I think most people that don't like them haven't learned to appreciate fish in general, and are more then likely fixated on one particular feature of the fish they do keep(elitism probably plays a part).
there pretty nice looking, active fish. although they are hard on filtration. i hope your planing to upgrade, they get pretty big and live along time(not to mention it sounds like you've gotten addicted lol).
interestingly enough I find the natural variation to be the best looking.

. for some reason when i started keeping the goldfish i thought they where more enjoyable to watch than my datnoids and all my other fish in my tanks. all the fish in my tanks either hide or they just stay in one spot in a group. only active time is when im feeding. the goldfish are really active.
