I'm fine with the hotel rates, and I'd be willing to spend a couple hundred on travel. Ideally I'd drive as I'd feel better about bringing fish to and from the convention instead of having to fly with them.

I have had enough of the lame excuses. I am waking up at 4 am on my anniversary to leave my at the time 8 months pregnant wife to head to this event. For the rest of my life I will have to justify missing my anniversary weekend or day with my wife to head to this event. It is a terrific time and I look forward to it every year. This will be my third one, as soon as I learned about them I started going and it has been a blast. I would have gone to the first one a month after I learned about them having the conventions, but I was on my honeymoon. Had it not been booked in advance I would have adjusted. You really do not know what you are missing until you have gone to a full event. One day is not enough, you have to stay overnight and learn about what really happens.

Needed to add,

I have spent every free second I have working on my masters classes so that I can finish my program early not to miss leaving on time for this event. I even stayed off the site for 6 weeks so I could get it done. This event is totally worth it.

Guess you have to factor in how much you like your wife. Hope she doesn't change the locks on you! ;)

Seriously, I'm sure it's gonna be great and all, but unless Angelina Jolie is there giving out lap dances and there's all you can eat bacon wrapped kobe beef and lobster (that Angelina Jolie is hand feeding me) I'm not completely stopping my life to go to an event on the other side of the country that will just happen again soon enough.

It's a hobby in the end. No matter how much I love it I'm not going to put it in front of my family. Call that a lame "excuse" if you want.

I'm still on the fence about making it. Could get there in four hours. Just dont feel like putting that kind of ware on my truck. I dono about the comment about most hobbyist living in Cali. There's lots of hobbyist in NY and there are some shops out here that can make you feel like you're at a convention every day. Believe me when it comes to rare Monsta fish, you can buy ANYTHING over here.

Here's a map I just threw together of the last 20 years of the ACA. Little skewed towards the east to say the least.
