I just call them biches for short. And right now all my biches are for sale.:D

LOL!!!!!!!!!!

i believe the correct way to pronounce is birsh-ear.

I call them Bur-cha's to those who are not into fish much and polypterus's to those who know a little. The proper name is easier than the common name to pronounce for a change

Why would you think that? It's not spelled birchir, it's spelled bichir.

I believe it was beblondie who posted a link a while ago that confirmed the official pronunciation as "biker." I'll give 5 internet dollars to the first person to find the post. Ready? GO!

I say birch er, thats how I started saying it and continue to say it. You know how long I said chich-lids :) , I love the response I get when I tell people that its pronounced sicklids, like I f-ing with them. It's hard to pronouce something correctly when you are the only one ever saying it outloud, 9.5 out of 10 times (especially when talking about bichirs) the person your saying it to (in my experience) would have no idea that your even talking about fish anyway, I could make anything up (like the decended from unicorns) and it would still be the same jibberish to them.
