i like a substrate free look with natural decoration - wood, rocks, plants. losing the gravel enables you to see reflections on the bottom, so even when fish think they're hiding (in my case, a tank full of plecos) you can usually spy on them from one angle or another.

Sorry for the another Newb Q but if thats the case should you limit the Gravel vacing to keep the bio in there??

The "bio" is still in there, even after gravel vac. You need to vac to prevent build-up.

i godda admit i'm a fan of the bare look! all i got is a piece of fake wood in mine...i need as much swimming room as possible tho..180 gallons 3 juvie tems and 2 cichs..cant afford to have heaps of decor!
