Indianna
Hey guys and gals as you may or may not know Indiana is getting pounded by a snow storm and last night we lost power for 6 hours. I thought all three of my tanks were done for besides the few fish I have that breath air. To add on top of that I have no generator with no possible way to power my filters or air stones ect I was ready to wake up and clean up all of my beloved inhabitants so I just went to bed. When I awoke the next morning I was shocked to see not a single death. Dose any one know how they could have survived? did I get lucky? are my fish just that strong? or did I have a divine intervention? Idk if some one could shed some light on this for me please.

Hard to say. Maybe you had plenty of aeration that lasted through the night.

I always have a battery powered aerator and a generator which i can plug into my tanks powerstrip for such occasions. Looks like you got lucky this time, I'd be more worried about temp drops than aeration unless your fish are coldwater.

You could have insulated your tanks with some blankets and rope. Feels sort of silly but it will keep the heat in for a while - I've done it in a power outage.

You can scoop out the water and dump it back in for aeration. Not the best, but it works.

A blizzard knocked out my power for a little over a day a few years back and I didn't loose a single fish. I have no contingency plans, pretty sure I lost power for 2 days in the summer time one year with no loses, may have only been 1 day my memory sucks

Oh I understand. I've been a bit worried lately as well. That ice storm had me sweating.

I didnt even think to do that when the power went out.

I hear ya man the power was flickering all day. Every flicker I would stop and stare at the lights. Theres still more to come too.
