i use a battery back up, made for computers. They are about 100 bucks, can power a air stone and a heater for a short period
Three sides of all of my tanks have 3/4" poly. on them. It comes in 6 pks. of sheets for under $5. at HomeDepot, in the insulation isle. I hot glue the 3 pcs. like this = [___], and hot glue or tape the background onto the insulation. I make the insulation fit like a glove around the tank. Really saves on electricity with the tank heaters too.
I'm such a silly person- I would probably take an airline with airstone and blow air into the water every few hours!

A sharp temperature drop for a period of time is much more harmful than being in a stagnant fish tank. If you think about it, most fish in the hobby are shipped to the stores. Many wholesalers will fit 50+ 2" fish in a 24"x20" box and they will have enough oxygen to last a day.
