i was 18 when i had my first child, unwed, NO help from my family. Me and my boys (3 before i was 25) were on AFDC and food stamps and medi-cal for 10 years. when my youngest son started school, so did i.
i've been working fulltime and supporting my family for 20 years, ALONE. with NO help from my family, my son's fathers or our government. but if it hadn't been for AFDC when me and my children were young we wouldn't be here today.
all i can say is "walk a mile in their shoes before you judge".. never know.. might be you that needs the handout next.

I have walked a mile. I have from time to time dropped out and lived on the street. About 5yrs total. I have been there, seen that.
