Im Sure Everyone Gets Or Has Had This At One Point

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My boss would often give me a hard time for all the time and money I spend on my fish, then one day he was giving me a hard time for telling someone else something about my fish and I said to him look at all the stupid cat and dog stories we have to listen to from you. After that he's not said a word about me saying something about fish since.

My friends thinking I'm crazy being so into fish. They crack jokes here and there but when I need their labor to move fish tanks they're there to lend a hand.:)

My dad thinks im just wasting my money. But when he saw the 75g planted tank.. he was in awe and made me set one up at his house.

Right, this is getting on my nerves. When you meet people for the first time etc. You will probaly bring up the topic of your fish, and then you probaly get a funny look, a ok....., or a "Isnt that a bit ***?". What do you say back to these stupid comments?

Anyone else get this? Or is it because im young?

Keith

When I meet people for the first time, I never bring up my fishkeeping. It's not something I lead off with, when meeting new people. I guess if I met a person and the conversation got to the point where we were discussing our hobbies and I mentioned my fish, it would be brief. I don't get what you're saying. I do have other hobbies. Maybe you're overwhelming people with your fish talk.

yessirrrr my gf gets annoyed once in a while...but thats cuz shes always tryin to put sumthin stupid in my tank....thats a no go.....

OH HELL NO DO NOT MESS WIT DA TANK

Sure people can be annoying about this subject, but it doesn't bother me anymore. Be it people who ridicule metal, snakes, or "excessive" fish keeping, there are always ignorant people ready to bother you. Considering how much I love my hobbies, the dim-witted comments I receive from people just don't amount to anything.

I always ask new people if they are selling a fish tank or know someone selling one and if they ask "Why?" Then I just tell them I am a Pacific Islander of course I like to raise fish and eat them. hahahaha

Since I work so much and don't go anywhere but home, I really don't have many friends, but the people at my job don't get me at all. They are all hoity toity rich people. Think dogs are dirty, cats are scary, ferrets are ugly "rodents" and keeping fish is stupid. Not an animal lover among them. I'll never understand people like that. They sorta just roll their eyes at me and just don't get it. Have one friend that has one 65 gal tank that is stuffed full with a huge oscar. Entirely too large for the tank, but since it has lived for years without regular water changes or any regular care besides feeding it, he figures he must be doing something right. Comes over to the house and hears about the weekly water changes, sees all of my tanks, boxes and cartons of fish supplies, extra equipment, a huge basket with at least three or four different kinds of food for EACH fish (not to mention what is in the freezer) and doesn't get why I have so much stuff when I've only been keeping fish for a couple of years, when he has had his fish for many many years and never had this much stuff. Some people will never get it.
