thats a "common". i'd put some veggies in its diet. cucumber, zuccini, potatoes etc would be ideal
 
but if you use potatoes, soak and rinse them first to get rid of the starch as this is not goot for your water quality
 
why not hot/warm water ?
I blanche(lightly boil) my zuchini to reduce something or other in it for the plecos digestion
 
Blanching in hot water for a short time is alright, but not long periods. You don't want the veggie to break down too fast in your tank. If you blanch it for too long you will have a nightmare with water params.
 
Sweetcorn is good but makes a mess! Zuchinni and cucumber, good algae wafers and fresh shrimp pellets will all be hungrily accepted. With good diet and water he will fast out grow a 55 but would be happy in there for a year or 2. 18"+ for total length, I have seen pics of 20"+ though.....
