I read up on Nitrite and Nitrate poisoning and I'm leaning towards Nitrate because it fits the symptoms.Nitrite didn't fit the equation. It said it is possible for young fish to be affected by low levels like mine was 20.Even then by the time you see signs it's usually to late according to what I read. That was the point of isolation tank in case something happens and they need to be moved quickly you can before the worse happens.I'm happy so far that the golds made it but sad at the loss of the blues,Gizmo,Romeo,Puppy, and Blue Heart.I know they are in a better place. : (

I'm so sorry you lost your blues :( I hope the remaining little ones make it. I know how much you care about your fish and how dedicated you are to keeping them happy.

Well I did another water change since they got sick and decided to check the water from tank and faucet even though I added water conditioner the tanks are reading the same as faucet readings Nitrate went down but not enough. It's under 20.I know someone mentioned rain can affect how the water company treats water if so could that be the cause of higher Nitrate levels.

I think tap nitrate levels can fluctuate just from the original sources, aside from water company treatments.
W Co treatments are sometimes increased so much that the chlorine or chloramines won't be eliminated without increasing of our conditioners....same for high nitrates out of the tap.
Some conditioners only treat chlorine/chloramines, others also reduce nitrites & nitrates- Amquel Plus is one.

I can't see how a wc that ends up with the same nitrate level - not really high- would shock fish to death.
maybe there were also excessive chlorines that day.

I'll check out some conditioners tomorrow along with anything that may help.At this point I think you can never have too much of anything whether it's meds or buffers.I think you should keep one of everything for that what if possibility.Already got one of every medicine.

you didn't say whether your first conditioner(s) reduce nitrites and nitrates. ?
However, if your tap increased your nitrates to a killing level, those levels would've shown in tests.

Did your first test include chlorine detection, or did the day-after test? Chlorine levels would've dissipated before the re-test, so you wouldn't even know. exposure damage can been lethal.

The new conditioner says it removes heavy metals, chlorine, and chloramines instantly.Nothing about Nitrite or Nitrate.I don't have a test for chlorine.Test showed the Nitrate at 20 that day and today it's lower the same as what came out of the faucet about 10.

conditioner labels say it removes chlorines instantly, but there is a limit to the chlorine level (ppm in the water) that one dose removes. over that level requires more, or chlorine remains. and chloramines are worse..

Good point.I'll look for a chlorine and chloroine test on my way home tomorrow.I know I just jumped right into the hobby but I couldn't watch that poor JD suffer anymore.I'm learning as I'm going everyday.

Try adding some Prime or Amquel, Amquel + to the water. This should help with the Nitrate.
