Impossible fish tank does the impossible

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
From what I've been able to find, it is a sealed-top tank. This prevents water displacement, by air, from the interface cups (so long as there's water in the cups).

Part of the filtration system sheds off water, through a check valve to an oxygen cone where the water is super-aerated. Then the water is pumped back to the outlet line, via another check valve, to the tank.

Feeding is accomplished through a chamber that resembles a pool filter leaf trap at the outlet side of the filter. Basically, 2 ball valves on an outlet bypass line are closed, the "leaf trap" is opened and food is placed in it. Then, after the lid is properly secured, the ball valves are opened and the food is blown into the tank along with the filtered water.

wow, that seems like a lot of trouble just to have little kids sticking their hands in the tank

It's a chance to offer something "new" in the cause of obtaining $$$ over other park's exhibits. Can't fault them for trying to draw business. If not for these shticks, many public aquariums would suffer for money. Especially in the current economy. Closures would only mean less places for us fishheads to enjoy.

check out this tank, fish come in and out freely.... it's not air sealed and with even air pumping in there.
Same concept, but I am just not getting it.. haha

awww man there needs to be a sticky about these... There is a post every 3 hours about them :)

Saw that tank a while back. It's an optical illusion. The tower portion of the tank is actually 2 tanks. The front tank is sealed at the surface. There's an open rear tank that houses the decorations and the air stone. Take a look at the rear glass bottom seam and you'll see what I mean.
