Impossible Fish Tank - Oita Marine Center

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I am very curious, but can't seem to wrap my brain around the concept. Obviously it's possible, but I just don't get it. Don't waste your time on me!!!
Thanks for the offer though.

i think it really helps if you can imagine what would happen if those feeding tubes kept extending in a pipe straight upward. the water wouldn't flow up the pipe or anything at all, because the water stays at the same level that the surface water is at under those grates.

Its a simple concept put together in a clever way. I will get some photos when I visit since I have some BIG tanks myself and Id like to do the same thing one day. One of those .... not essential but it would be good to do projects.

I hope this is a bit clearer explanation...

The feeding ports are at the natural water level for the aquarium so they can't leak. (This is the real top of the tank.) The part of the tank you see ABOVE the ports is a sealed section. The water is oxygenated by the OPEN serface area of the tank under the grates. This is also how the tank is servaced. If you moved the feeding tubes to the outside section of the tank you'd see how it works and all the magic would go away.

Filling the tank would be no problem at all...simply have a return line from the filter equiped with a safety valve at the top of the raised or "magic" section.
The reason you see water on the floor is because the feeding tubes are the same as having the water level all the way to the top and the fish moving around slosh a certian amount of water out normally.

it has to do with physics... gravity is forcing the water in the lil open point down... keeping it form over flowing

I guess I understand it, well, not really.

any update on this tank?

I hope they just finished mopping/cleaning the floor in the second pic., otherwise, it seems to leak an aweful lot !!
