impossible to keep clean

For some reason I am having problems with my 14g tank.

Water quality seems fine in terms of ammonia and nitrites and nitrates, but for some reason the water never seems particularly clear.

I have a tetratec ex600 running the filtration, plus the internal filter that came with the Jewel 14g.

Whats going on?
 
when you the water doesn't stay clear, do you mean it's cloudy white, bubbly, or yellow tinge?
 
when you say clear do you mean theres lots of floating particles ifso then you need more mechanical filtration.

if you mean a different colour other than clear then you either have an algal bloom (green water) driftwood (brown or yellow water) or a bacterial bloom (cloudy white)

if its driftwood then some carbon in the filter will clear it up if its an algal or bacterial bloom a uv sterilizer will help (as will reducing the time the lights are on if its algae)
 
have you tried using Purigen? i use it in my tanks, and it really keeps the water clear-
 
Sorry for not being clear enough.. was unwell yesterday and just typed it all up rather quickly.

By unclear I mean that there is a strange brown growth along the windows, when I try to scrub it away with the magnet srcub the particles just go everywhere.

After a WC it clears up for a while but then just gets a bit dingy again in a couple of days.

But like I said the actual water parameters are fine. This is why I took the bigger external filter to hopefully help keep the tank cleaner - but so far doesn't seem to be making a difference.

Inside there is no driftwood- simple thin layer of sand, two Java plants and some rocks. Inhabitants are two convicts.

try to clean the windows and then do a water change .
wat kind of lightight ( verlcihting ) do you have ?
 
^been trying to make sure to scrub the windows first then do the WC.

The lighting is just standard light that comes with the jewel lid.

buurman, was just in your country yesterday!
 
How long has the tank been up?
