impossible to keep clean

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It seems to have settled down a bit the last few days since I did a bigger WC on Sunday. I'll probably do another one today just to be safe.

Keeping the lights off and keeping the feedings smaller as well. Not sure if that has an effect or not but figured it can't help.

ok nice are you going to the big aquarium trade/sell thing in my hood here ? it's the biggest in de benelux ;) let me know if you come . greets

i have this going on in my tank too. frequent WC (2-3 a week) will help

does it look like this?

it can look like a brownish film on surfaces, plants, and glass

i agree with the posters that its the brown diatoms. i have it in my 90 gallon oscar tank. its a real PITA. all you can really do is just wipe it off, i do throw fake plants in the dishwasher for the wash cycle (with no soap) and pull them out before the drying cycle (or your plants will melt lol). i have been told that over time it will slow down and disappear.

you could try live plants. or i wonder if dosing with Flourish Excel would kill it? im trying that now-i have some hair algae (which is actually a red algae) in the 90 gallon on the driftwood and have read on multiple sites that dosing with Excel kills the algae...

just a thought..

Yeah, pretty much like that... seems to be getting better though at the moment. Did a bigger water change and since then it seems to be calming down.

Let me know how the Flourish Excel works out for you...
I've got two live plants in there, but I don't think they are making any difference. If anything its just another thing for me to clean every week. Just looks nicer more than anything.
