There were many other rivers in the very close, but because its the dry season, some only inches deep, some piled high with boulders (Rio Piedra) there were also some lagoons that I didn't notice on the way in, because it was very dark out in the tropical mountainous area.
Although I rented a car, I don't think I'd recommend that route, traffic in the cities is insane.
Our resort was only a little over 100 miles from the Cartagena airport, normally in the states, a less than 2 hour drive. The trip back to Cartagena took us about 7 hours, slowing to a crawl in the publecitos, and inching thru throngs of pedestrians, motor bikes, and taking a few wrongs turns out of traffic circles in the larger cities like Santa Marta, Baranguillo and entering Cartagena.
Maybe if you live in NYC or the heart of Chicago, it might seem vaguely familiar.
