I live in a condo complex and made sure that I got a condo on ground floor so I could have a large fish tank. It is currently stocked with 2 marbled motoro stingrays and 4 discus. I love my fish and they are my pride and joy. Now to the heart of the matter. Supposedly someone in the Condo building has bed bugs and they need to spray all the condos in the area. Will this harm my rays at all? Anyone have any ideas? Anything I can do? Please feel free to email me as I really want to make sure my pets are safe.

When they do id seal the tank from air/chmicals. Maybe a tarp thats bungie corded and turn off bubbler untill their done. If u use canister leave it on. Anything else exposed to water or air that enters ur tank needs sealed!!!

Goodluck

ya its bad news for ur fish, u need to find out about it and what kind of cem ther gona use phone them and ask they must know what you should do im sure ur not the 1st person with fish they have comeacross

Just be sure to cover. Ive bombed my old rental before with no ill effects by covering and securing. I also spray annually around my own home, just keep the spray wand close to floor so no overspray gets in the tanks.

What about that "press 'n seal" stuff that they sell to replace the clear plastic wrap to cover food. That stuff works really well for covering food IMO. I remember my Orkin man was super knowledgable and told me that the chemicals they used were safe for mammals but super poisonous for fish. Please take great care!

o boy, would definatley get the tank covered. maybe drain some water not a lot but a few inches to allow more O2 in the water. But they should be ok covered and seasled only for a few hrs. Remember to dicsonect equipment in the tank so you get a better seal. Maybe even set the heater in the house to 23 or 24 if you live some were cold. I cant see it being that big of a problem though, as long as they give you time to prepare. Remember to leave some windows open if possible to let it vent before you remove you seal.

Carbon, carbon, carbon carbon, Did I mention maybe run some carbon? It works great to get rid of poisons, chemicals, medicines, chlorine and anything you don't want in your system. That is why most medicines say to turn off all carbon use- it strips it out. I run a small amount of carbon 24/7 just in case an airborne chemical, lysol, febreeze etc drifts into the tank. Cover the tank as well!

Hey Everyone,
A quick update and hopefully another update in the next day or two… I don’t have a computer set up at home anymore as everything had to come apart. I first tried to use a huge drop sheet to cover the tank but as I was taping it down the poly ripped apart and was nowhere near strong enough. I then switched to making a cover out of garbage backs which was great! I slit the garbage bags on one side to make the corners and then slit both sides for the other pieces. I then gorilla taped it and then packing tape. Last night I did not feed the rays and dropped the water level by just over an inch. I added carbon to the filters and will be doing a water change tomorrow on the tank. The air was running on the tank till they showed up and was removed and then the tank fully sealed. I have been at work while they are spraying and they finished it off just a couple of hours ago. When they came to do the walk through they were fascinated and said they would be super careful.
I am hoping and praying they survive. They are my pride and joy and I look forward to seeing them every night. I will update over the next few days on how things are going.
They have me scheduled for 1 more spray on the 20[SUP]th[/SUP] so if there is anything else you think I should be doing or anything I have done wrong please let me know!
