In-ground Pool soon to be a POND!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Sorry that you gave up on it, it was turning out to be quite a cool project!!!

why not ust add some plants, do naturally filther it

Hey, let us know what's going on. If you quit it entirely, no biggy, just say so, otherwise I'm sure a ton of us would like to continue talking about this.

I live in L.A. and have a ton of sun all the time and lots of hot weather and have a very large koi/turtle/gold fish pond. A pond is a pond is a pond unless it's saltwater and that's tough. I know you want some S.A. fish, but there's always compromise.

I don't think you need uv filter. I don't think you need heat unless it gets really cold, does it get that cold there? Below 60???

Start updating again, unless you quit, no worries. My pond is the easiest thing fishwise I ever did. I can give you advice, I always have a lot of ideas.....No worries.;)

I haven't touched it in couple months...I still have fish and about to add some dirty turtles. I need to start collecting plants to add as natural filtration but i just got back from two week trip to West Africa. Boogie i would really appreciate any advise or ideas you have. I will get some pictures this weekend but trust me it looks really bad!

Absolutely NO worries!!!! Please, if you think anyone is here to judge then you are being foolish. Africa sounds cool...

Anyway, when you can, just send as many pictures as you possibly can on this thread = never enough pictures. Then exactly = one more time, amount of fish, what they are, how big!, how often you feed, pump situation. Everyone will be able to help you. But it is good to start over again in this thread because there are just too many pages and people can't read all of them at once to get a good feel for it.

So do the ton of pictures and do a thorough biography with the pictures and everyone can give their 2 cents. Remarkably enough, I have more problems with my 125 gallon fresh water tank than my pond. My pond almost takes care of itself at this point. That's the easy part - it's so big that it needs little work, however, I also set it up that way specifically and have upgraded pumps also.

I don't know how your water movement is - but in a pond that is priority. You can never had enough water movement. So get on the pictures and biography and everyone can start helping you to where it will be almost too easy for you. Also, how do you do water changes or do you? Mine is so easy.... Can't wait for you to get an hour to start this again and welcome back...

for sure the movement issue is a key to keeping it clean, anywhere that it isnt moving drop in a submersible pond pump (go cheap since there is absolutely no head or back pressure) try to get movement like you would in a salt water. second get it some shade, that is more important than the uv filter, you dont need the uv if you dont have as much natural light. let us know where youre at with it there are a few of us pond guys that havent posted there 2 cents and might have some good ideas for you.

Hey... I was just following your thread.... Great pond...!! Don't give up....!!

Just re-evaluate...!

Lot's of great people here to help...!!! The bog filter sounds like the thing to do and it looks like you have the room for it... alothough, I don't know much about them so ask one of the other members....

Good Luck...!
