I have housed my Diplogramma which are now 13 inch with success with 2 Gar 9, 15 inch, 2 Gulper catfish 12 inch +, Clown-knife 18 inch, and Tinfoil Barbs 7- 9 inch group of 5 . mine have fought each other more than tank mates but still are doing fine. As others have said size matters for tank mates but my rule of thumb is the earlier the better chance you have at mixing IMO :)

Good luck with it, 12" is still young watch for aggression as they grow.

FYI - RES is a very dangerous choice for a tank mate, they can and will eventually turn on those tank mates and rip them to pieces. I've mixed turtles/fish before and keep over a dozen RES and i can all but guarntee that it's only a matter or time before that goes very badly. It'll probably start with nipping a a slow bottom dweller, but once they discover how easy it is to remove chunks from fish and that they are edible it will quickly turn on the rest.

How long has this mix been working for ? Also I'm curious, to see the setup, What size ? and how are u providing a basking area without leaving an escape route for the snakehead ?

I have put up all these together in a 90gal tank, this mix has been working for about 5-6 months. The reason why this setup goes without a problem, well i think my RES is very patient as well as calm. You might think i am lying but my RES doesn't even try to hunt other small fishes which are given as feeders for the snakehead like platy's or mollies( big ones). My RES thinks that the food i normally give to him is much tastier and hence grew up this way. For basking purposes, i have 2 tube lights which is fixed on top of the tank and i keep a big thick square wood plank which floats on the water that wont buckle while he climbs. I bought him from a petstore when he was just 2cm big, now he is about 16cm big and he is very playfull. :D
