and what do all of the abbreviations mean, ST, IT, NGT, NTT, and AT?

I have never kept gars before but I hear they grow reasonably fast and dats grow kind of slow. Depending on how big a dat you get compared to the gar, he might be a feeder for the gar. Again, I don't know first hand but it's something to consider.

The gars will grow too big for the 180g and will definately outgrow the dats. If setting up another tank thats bigger than it should be fine for the moment. Just use your judgement about the sizes of both fish so that your NTT's dont become an expensive feeder.

Its an indo dat. With a 75 gal you should be good for life with a couple fish. Don't buy cheap you will just want a better one later. Pick one with the shortest body with good markings. Good luck

I would plan on larger than a 75 for life. It will take a loooong time but Indos have the potential to get very large.

and florida gars normally reach about 2' in captivity so worst possibility, i have to get a 3' wide tank, and if i got the dats at about 6" when the gars were about 6" could the dat take down the gar? or even bigger like the dat at about 7-8" and the gar at 6"?

I wouldnt worry too about dat aggression towards gar. Even if you ended up with a mean dat, the chances of him hurting the gar would be minimal and the concern would be more of keeping the gar from jumping out due to stress.

alright that sounds good so what do you guys keep with dats, im kinda a sucker for gars, thats why i like them, but what do you guys keep with them, birchirs, cichlids, or what else?
