a friend of mine asked if i wanted his 15" northern pike
i have an empty 150g he could go in as a temp tank till
i could get something larger the tank is in my basement witch
does not get warmer than 65 degrees in the summer and about 50 degrees in winter i just wanted to know if these temps would work
and would it even be a good idea to take this fish
thanks

Those temps should be fine

sounds good

150gal sounds like too small for a 15inch Northern pike. However since you looking for a bigger tank (600gals or more), you might be okay but northern pike get way bigger than pickerels and black basses.

If it were me, I'd either get a big round plastic or fiberglass tank (reduced chance the fish will squarely hit a side if it gets spooked or lunges for food) or do a big lined cinder block tank. Neither of these would provide that great of viewing of the fish, but they would be cheaper ways to get a large tank. You could also go the more expensive route and build a nice big display tank. Either way, the 150 can obviously only be a temporary home. I'd cover the ends of the tank, and maybe add some big fake plants or something there so the fish knows they are barriers and doesn't kill itself trying to swim through them.

How about a chain pickerel instead? They get big enough to be impressive, but not big enough that you would need to flood your whole basement to keep them.

Whenever we are discussing the temps to keep native fish in remember the following:
It is 0943am, January 26, 2009. the temp outside is -12 degrees. My buddies and I fish for Pike all winter long through the ice.

Just wanted to offer a funny way to say that natives are quite hardy.
I also agree with the Brothers here, the tank you mention may be a bit on the snug-side for Mr Esox.

Respectfully,
FireMedic.
