This happened to my male Pearl once. Added salt and it cleared up within a few days.

What kind of salt? I never used salt before, i have 2 of the bigger UV units running so i am hoping to not have to start messing around wih salt.

Snapped a couple of pics last night. He eating fine. Got up this morning and he got out from behind the divider and chasing the girls around again! I have had to leave him for today and come to work.2014-01-12-583.jpg2014-01-12-579.jpg

One of the eyes on my old hentilla ray went completely red once like it had filled with blood, there was no visible damage to the eye. It carried on as normal and after 2 days the eye was back to normal.

That's reasuring. But i think i can see what looks like the tissue of his eye and it looks damaged, i will see how he looks tonight. I may have to try and get him back behind the divider. I knew there was about a 1" or so gap at the top of the divider when i put it in but i was hoping he would not try to go over the top of it. Guess i was wrong!! There is no way to get around the divider except over the top. He must want to be with the girls.

From what I can see Jim the pupil is reacting to the lights by showing just a slit, this is normal for a ray as it is with a domestic Cat when to much light is trying to enter the eye during the day. Turn the lights off for a couple of minutes and then take a look at the pupil and see if it becomes dilated, my guess is it will. I don't think there will be lasting damage, in another week it will be back to normal.

Good luck mate and don't worry, it will turn out ok in the end.

Wow that is crazy you say that. I checked him when I got home from work. Looked a little better but not healed. I just went and made a cup of tea. Checked him and thought omg the eye is totally healed!! The main tank lights were out and just blue moon light on. I put the room lights on and looked again. This time the eye looked red again!! Guess you are a every knowledgeable guy Richard. What makes them do this? Never noticed it before. Thanks so much for posting, you put my mind at rest mate. It's weird how it has only just happened, do you have any idea what can bring this on?
