If your not running a heater, where do you expect the heat to come from that you are trying to hold in the tank?

it will if you make a tight seal between the insulation sheet and the glass. if its not too big i'd put a sheet of styrofoam underneath the fish tank, between the glass and the stand, and depending on the hood orientation it would do you good to put some sort of insulation over the tank, perhaps if there is space between the light and the hood. Personally I have Great Stuff, spray insulation between my light reflector and my hood.

you have a picture of the tank that you are trying to insulate?

well it stays over 70 in the house ( around 74 ) and the tank is righ next to 2 windows ( on each side of the tank theres 2 windows ) so i was hoping to block the cold from the window and trap the hosue heat in the tank.

So your planning on keeping tropical fish at sub tropical temperatures?

forgot to instilate under the tank but dont want to bug grandad for anymore of his instilation. would it be a better idea to do the underside of the tank to?
