INSTANT CYCLE... Need some Help

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
OK so now what :/

I guess i need to do a fish cycle now, since Nutrafin Aqua Cycle removes Ammonia....

Any hardy fish to start it up?

Many people use Zebra Danio's, but why use fish at all, you can buy ammonia from a hardware store a lot cheaper than fish from a lfs, you can control how much ammonia is in your tank to keep the optimum 2-4ppm to cycle with, and you won't be unnecessarily stressing any fish?
There really is no reason to do a 'fishy' cycle any more!

Just read your penultimate post, lol, sorry for laughing, but thats exactly how I felt the first time I used Stability, didn't read through the instructions and was dosing for 2 weeks before realising I wasn't shaking the bottle enough. Give yourself a slap on the side of your head and move on, we've all been there at sometime (and sometimes more than once)!

^^ I did, but i added Aqua Cycle already...that destroys Ammonia.... and I really can't take out 200 litres of water again....

Aqua Cycle apparently destroys ammonia.

The Aqua Cycle will be gone in 24 hours or so (as long as you don't add more), if you want to be sure then get some ammonia and add maybe a capfull to the tank. wait 3 or 4 hours and then test for it, as long as you get a reading then you know there is ammonia (or ammonium) present and you can begin using Stability - double dose the first day and shake the bottle really hard each time before you use it ).

I much prefer Seachem Stability. IME there is no product that will give you an instant cycle, aside from some established media from a cycled tank.

It's my favorite way to cycle a tank.

The NUTRAFINcycle at bottom of instructions and child warnings says :"Nutrafin Cycle will allow immediate introduction of fish when all necessary conditions have been provided." Setting up new tanks, I used NUTRAFIN AQUA+plus AND the NUTRAFINcycle for water treatment, along with aquarium salt for the fresh water tanks. After filling tank with treated water, I ran filters with just the black BIO sponges in them, WITHOUT the carbon filled media. Added fish, fed them : H2O LIFE.,INC Blood Worms. (Ingredients-Bloodworms, Chironomus sp., potassium ascorbate /source of stabilized vitamin C, Phytoplankton-Enriched for Coloration and Complete Nutrition). I test the water every day, and add the carbon filled media into filters when the ammonia and/or nitrite is no longer at O.O. :)I have done this with 7 of 8 of my tanks with out any fish (or plant) death, no red gills etc. I have freshwater and brackish tanks, with sand in all of them. I have extreme hard with extreme high Ph tap water. Don't know if any of this makes a difference? !

I have herd good things about about instant cycle but I have not personally used it. I think the best way is to transfer a bio wheel or filter media from a already established tank. Good Luck!

^^ Comforting, best thing to do is test the water with AquaCycle in place, if results are not good, im adding ammonia today.
