interest in glowing cichlids

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I am not attacking you or judging you in any way. You may be in this for the money, or you may be in it for the science aspect or whatever other reason you may have. I dont know you personally so I cant speculate. You may be a very smart scientist or you may be some whack job with a chemistry set. The point is you asked for thoughts and I gave you exactly what I thought of your idea. This is a discussion forum so dont act so shocked or surprised that you're getting strong opinions.

it is either bright blue or green, but only one of those. Also, some work has been done with red jellyfish genes, but that doesn't really glow as much. Pretty much any aquatic coloration gene is a candidate, but no mixed colors are a real possibility...just too difficult to determine how the genes will mix.

DMoney, I sent you a PM explaining some things that are not really relevant to the actual topic matter of this forum, but should clear some things up

The coal burned to generate the electricity we're using to run our computers to talk about fish is having a greater negative affect on the environment than genertically altered glowing chiclids ever could.

They would be useful if you could link the glo to a gene so the fish stops glowing if the water conditions are bad.no glow if ammonia or nitrites present. In a hardy fish like a convict or a zebra danio youd have a fish to cycle new tank and could see right away when tank was ready for other fish.great starter fish for newbs.have one with your expensive fish to immediatly alert you to changes in water condition.
I believe this is something like what the glofish(danios) are used for now.

That was a very long post and Thanks for attacking me personally by practically calling me mindless. But other than your obviously sarcastic remarks you no where in all that gibberish said I WANT TO MAKE CICHLIDS GLOW BECAUSE ?????????????????. I am not being unreasonable you claim your motive is not money. What is your motive?

If you want to splice genes to cure cancer I will hold a dinner in your honor......If you want to do it to stop babies from being born with deformities I will donate money to your cause. I have no problem with the ethical work that your field does.

Stop assuming you know anything about me or how I feel.

Please just answer my question :)

I thought my reasons where fairly well thought out and explained. I still have not heard WHY he wants them to glow other than to sell them. ;)
I quoted the wrong post JohnO, sorry
