And Joey, on the HITH, any thoughts on what caused it? I know I discussed this with you before, when some species seemed to be more prone to it. In my tank for example, my ocellaris and tem always had HITH, while the orinos were completely fine...

Damn! While most of us were still playing in our cichla undies, these intermedias were been flown all over the continental united states! Still can't believe nobody's been able to bring any more in, considering they're found throughout the Orinoco where the orinos come from.

Yea, it seems to be one of those 1 in a million shipment.

Isaac over at RW really had some solid SA connections.

Well when they came in I don't believe they had it, it was the water conditions they were kept in that I believe accelerated the condition. Some PBass are just more sensitive to water conditions. Like when someone has an ACNE breakout. More prone to an outbreak when stressed or diet is a factor. Some people have ACNE while others don't..however has the occasional breakout when poor conditions are applicable.

The Intermedia I had also had a slight case but i was able to at least keep it stable. This was because of water quality, now even if people have great water quality it could be induced by stress. Tank mates bullying, chasing, perhaps at the lowest level of the pecking order.

So as for the argument of Hith being genetics, I believe they all could possibly have it, however depends individually how severe based on water conditions and diet. Combination of either two sometimes both.

Speaking of HITH, I picked 5 Geo's sometime ago that had HITH. The person who had them kept the water changes at the schedule so water was fine and fed properly. I asked if he had carbon in the tank... he said yes. I still purchased the Geo's regardless of the obvious Hith and started treatment. Treatment as far as water change every other day, with salt and "NO" carbon in my tank. After a few weeks the Hith resided and you would not even think they were the same fish. Reason I am a believer that carbon also contributes to Hith...again just my opinions and personal experience.

On that note joey i was thinking of using carbon filters instead of using Prime for declorinization and for clorimine What are your guys thoughts on that ? Granted your just running it through carbon once not continually ?

Yes, this was how I ran carbon. Through a carbon tank. Only for water changes. Never continually. This was only to de-chlorinate and remove chloramine. The problem is when you incorporate it in your filter or sump. I believe it is also soaking up essential organics in the water that ends up doing more bad than good. I used combination of carbon and ammo chips.

I've never used prime or any of the stuff for my big tank.

This was my water change system..

This was the carbon tank before it entered my tank.

Faucet (timer) > Pre-Filter (remove sediments) > carbon tank > series of 3 cartridges (chloramine & chlorine) remover > into tank.

Li bought quite a few inters from that batch from river wonders, no idea what happened to them.

Anyone know what happened to Isaac @ river wonders? Think I heard he got in trouble for illegal imports or something.

Perfect but another couple questions Joey as far as on the net there is a company that sells ten inch cans that you can put as many in line as you want Obviously smaller carbon cartriges they say that these take care of the chlorine and chlorimines plus the have another resin cartrige to further purify how long would a stack of those smaller cartriges last until replacement is neccisary ? At A&E or A&S Aquaqtics something like that ...Also i bought 3 300 watt Jagers rated for 265 gals each should i think about buying a 1000 watt titanium instead with outside temp control or are the jagers enough?

This particular one originated from River Wonders. Amazon Don had first possession then like a 2 Dolla Hooka it was past around... (like House64) was back in the day.

It's great to have history on fish that has more frequent flyer miles than I ever will...hahaha...

Oh man that was the best one yet!:ROFL::ROFL::ROFL:Can't wait till house64 sees this one! :D

I myself have been looking for over a year now. Since I began my search I have heard of three shipments that came in. I was told by a few people why Sold a few Wolf tickets that they could get them but never actually had any confirmed knowledge of any except the one's R1 is telling us about now. And of course I was still in Cichla Dipers when this was all going on. I barley knew about Cichla let alone all the different Sp.

On the heating, what will the lowest room temp be in the winter? Because I'll tell you, I had 1500w on my 400g in the garage. In the winter, I could not even keep 78-80. Temps in the garage would drop below 60.

Rule of thumb: 4 watts per gallon to raise the tank temp 9 degrees over the ambient room temperature. It's basic physics. So some simple math, if the room stays 70 year round and you want to keep the tank at 79, you'll need 2700w of heating :)
