J's right..don't sell yourself short when it comes to heating.

So I was talking to KENS FISH up in Mass about heating my 600. He offers proheat controllers with 1000 watt titanium elements. He had the sale if he said they were ok. He recommended 6 300 watt heaters instead. Redundancy. If you have the space in the sump and the outlets I would go with multiple 300-400 watt heaters. The ambient temp of my basement is 68. In 12 hrs the 6 300s had the tank at 80. It hovers at 81 now. The beauty is I can always add more and if one fails I have 5 more to pick up the load. Another note I did get one inch insullation for the back and sides of the tank. This must make a difference. I will insulate the 120 gallon wet dry in the back too in the near future. Lastly, the 6 heaters are only set on 80 degrees, I still have space to crank them up if I want. Total cost with shipping 140 beans with 1lb of FD KRILL.

Oh yeah the thread topic....so if you had a line on some intermedia, would you A. announce the source and buy 2 for yourself or B. Buy them all and hord them, C. buy them all and give them to your MFK friends as Christmas gifts?
LOL!!!! I must say i would get mine first then let everybody know....Just a little greedy LOL!!!!So i guess D none of the above:ROFL:

Where are you looking for heating? Check out Jehmco. Their titanium heaters are great and they come with top-quality Ranco controllers, which are industrial use. A 1000w rod and controller goes for $150. Each controller can handle 1800w, so you could run 1000w + 500w rods on one controller.

Best to run multiple controllers if you can afford it. That way, if a rod goes out you could easily tell. If you have more than one on one controller, it will difficult to know if one's gone out.

P.S. I have a Ranco controller and a 500w on my 57g planted tank, talk about overkill lol! Left over from the 400g, so why not put it to use. Being that the tank is indoors, the heater kicks on, then back off a few minutes later. With 500w, it's super easy to keep the temps spot on :)

This is the same heater I have running my 240g! LOL came with the tank and still going strong and I only keep it at 80. :D Can't go wrong with a winner!

OK so the next natural question is....what would you pay for the elusive Intermedia?
When i'm ready to go on the hunt i would pay $300 to $500 for good size fry ..I mean heck we all paid $100 for 4th batch plus shipping so it would not be out of line right? would'nt you?

I would go with B, then resell at a profit. If you've paid attention to cichla history on these boards, that's exactly what has happened. Some guys will sell them along at the same cost, but most don't. Let's just say some have made out like bandits ;)

I once spent $500 on a fish that was 5" , just to find out I could have gotten the same fish at the same size a month later for $80....lol.... my ass still hurts..

I'd rather not since it will probably shift the whole topic elsewhere and that's a whole other Oprah... besides I don't blame no one else but me for being so stupid. But as time go you live & learn. Besides I've always believed that sellers don't dictate the price, the buyers do. If your willing to pay it why make it less.
