Intermedia

So all the drama over one ill acquired fish has clouded the minds of rare Cichla keepers.
That's truly a shame for all of us.

I can assure you that the cost of this species is fixed coming out of Colombia. They cost considerably more before any export, freight, and imports fees are added to the fish than the one advertised on aquabid.

If any of you have been communicating with multiple Colombian exporters and fisherman several times per week for the past 20 years and have learned otherwise, then I will humbly sit corrected for the knowledge I have learned of this trade, and in particular, in regards to the species in question.

For anyone interested, the 5 intermedia I have on hand have not been fed live food once since their arrival.
They chow down on freeze dried krill, frozen krill, small pieces of smelt, etc.
They live amicably with each other and didn't take long to recognize me as their food provider.

I have a thoroughly enjoyed the Cichla hobby the past 2 years or so. It has a lot of my focus at times & at others I could not simply because of my business commitments. Through it all I learned some tough lessons & lost some beautiful fish, but on the other side of that coin I have gotten to enjoy seeing the fruits of my labor & love grow up to beautiful fish that are truly part of my life. Everyone on here can go on & on about the Intermedia but just a year ago people were wishing upon a star that some would bless us with their arrival. Now the importer with the best rep on here got the cichla that most have said is one of the hardest to get next to the Fogo. So for entertainment purposes only, I will share a few before & after pictures so everyone can see why we cichla lovers keep on ticking':

So These are Xingu (cost me $350), Rio Ventuari Temensis (Cost me $135 or so), & Rio Araguiua Kelberi (Cost me $175). If you enjoy the fish & foresee yourself enjoying seeing end results like this, get what you can afford & have fun with the hobby! Cheaper fish can turn out beautiful & expensive ones can end up not so special looking. Difference that causes price increase is the old law of supply & demand!

Great update and words of wisdom. Ever get that big tank set up? Your cichlas are very healthy.

Hey Ken! I just talked filtration for that tank with Wil today. He suggested 2 pumps pushing 5,000 gallons each through a big bio ball filter & a 3rd pump pushing through a glass filter. I kinda got a bit of a fever again from this:

Special filtration needed for that bunch for sure.
