Internet giants consider blackout to protest SOPA

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i think this needs to happen. the more we are oppressed the more people will realize that we've been oppressed all along. end the illusion of freedom and then maybe we will head towards a real world where freedom is truly expressed as our founding fathers had envisioned hundreds of years ago.

There will always be a system. The one we have right now is pretty darn good relatively speaking for the internet. This bill is just disgusting. What does it actually do to stop piracy? It doesn't actually attack anyone or anything. It just gives IP holders control over the internet. Its not going to protect the little guys who get really hurt by piracy, just the big companies.

If you think about it though if it does happen it forces people buy everything locally.corpate business will flourish and stores would no longer have to compete with internet prices. even mom and pop stores that are now dieing would make out if this went through. I would hate to see it happen because this would change our hole way of life

Mom and pop shops aren't dieing because of the internet they are going extinct because of Walmart. Nobody is proposing a ban on Walmart, well no one except the movie WALL-E.

Legislating against the freedoms that America holds so dear has become the American governments favourite past time. Mostly lead by a fear mongering ultra right wing conservative sector. Funny the same conservative right that hates countries like Korea and China for censor their citizens life, is currently working on taking away as much freedom as possible from its citizens.

SOPA and PIPA pits one sort of industry vs the other. Nothing more, nothing less.

I don't even think this is health for the industries necessarily its basically giving them relatively complete control over the internet with no oversight. How is that good for an industry??? Its basically creating internet dictatorships out of large IP holders. It doesn't help them make better movies, games or music. Doesn't really let them stop piracy, they gonna prosecute??? Didn't think so. Same people who pirated before will continue to the venue might change a little.

Honestly not surprised there isn't more conversation on this forum. The way these bills are worded some one could post a link or something to some sorta IP and bam this sight could be blocked without any court or government oversight. Actually there isn't much oversight so really they don't even need to have evidence of any wrong doing they can take down a website with relative no repercussions. Forget what the law is called, or what the so called "intentions" are, how it works throws the baby out with the bath water.

Someone did make a thread on this a few weeks ago but it didn't garner very much interest then either...I find it interesting that there has not been much coverage on the news shows.I want to look into it and find out just which carpetbaggers are pushing the bills.Whomever is involved here needs to be exposed and any future campaigns of any kind of their's needs to be shot down.

Wikipedia has a link where you can put in your zip code and get the contact Info for gor local reps. Call them, inquire about their stance on the matter. Have your name listed with your views on the matter. Understand that even this website would be under scrutiny if these bills were to pass.

The way these bills are written, if someone would post a link in the lounge here that takes you to a different site that is hosting copywritten material, then MFK will be held responsible and can be permanintly shut down even though the offending material wasn't placed by anyone responsible for the site's content. That would be like holding Ford responsible because someone was caught speeding in one of their cars.

yeah ther are even forum on this
