Intro + Oscar Advice

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I agree with the others, anything less that 6ft of length is a bit small for oscars.
Also agree about feeders, they are raised in crowded conditions and cheaply, so are often times disease carriers, and all it takes in one parasitic bacteria to wipe out your oscar.
Feeders are usually lacking in nutrients, and are thiaminase carriers.
What you need to know about predator fish and thiaminase ...
Best to feed pellets and insects.

Thanks all! Thinking of maybe getting a 150 if I can fit it. Could I add a shoal of 8-10 silver dollars?

If you get the smaller ones I don't see an issue. I had mine with some for some time. Just got to make sure they stay bigger than the Oscar's mouth. Mine tried to eat the smallest one. It didn't fit so after that she just chased them about every now and then when they bothered her. I would go with Regular, Spotted or Tiger stripe. Most of the others get to big for the tank you are planning on (Red hook, wide bar etc)
