I use one because I run sponge filters. I guess it all depends on your setup. The benefits for me are running multiple tanks of one appliance, and the insurance/security of sponges.

my experience is the opposite. I've never had a filter quit working. become very loud and annoying, yes. but die? never.
air pumps on the other hand... at least 4 off the top of my head.
Usually true...............Try running your tank with bubbler and with out and see if like me the fish seem to move around more with a bubbler. Just my 2 cents.
