You do run the risk of them not taking prepared. I feed freshly frozen live foods. Every spring we go catch smelts. My largest ornate will swallow a full grown one whole. I just pop them in the freezer on sheets of wax paper. Once they're frozen they go into a freezer bag. The nice thing with these is they still have all the guts, eggs, organs etc in them. So it's a pretty complete food. You can do this with feeders from the store as well, if you don't have access to a fish like the smelt.
