Here is what you're looking for if the fish still has hex(under 400x)

Interesting because my water is really high pH. 8.1-8.3
Yes it does look like cauliflower when developed, but earliest sign would be a bump like this. It doesn't just instantly appear all over the fish looking like cauliflower. Not saying this is definitely lymph... but wouldn't necessarily rule it out based on that criteria.
Lymph is a tricky virus. If you get it in one tank, all fish are assumed infected. If you use the same hose for water changes in two tanks, boom now the new tank has it. It can go into remission and you won't see it for months or years, then resurfaces with other stresses. Usually doesn't kill the fish, but it can like you said. It does make them incredibly ugly however. I have read about people culling all their fish and bleaching/drying the whole system to get rid of it.I suppose its quite possible. I am not an expert at all but from what I read on it, it's not normally fatal unless it affects areas that would obstruct eating/breathing. It otherwise resolves itself in time...So if it's that, it may take months to heal from what I know. It could be a site for secondary bacterial infections as well but if all goes well, it will clear up completely, eventually....so perhaps, besides the toll on one's patience, its not the worst scenario...

I hop that this is not lymph. Total PITA of a virus. I'd say this is too early to tell if it is, but if it progresses into the larger cauliflower bumps, it is easy to tell.

Parasites survived only a few days in PH 5.5, 8.0 and 8.5 and were killed within 24hrs at a pH above 8.5 or below 5.5.
