fin rot is best cured/prevented with good water and maybe raised temps and salt. no meds required...

you should never change 100% of the water. if you do so, you will remove your beneficial bacteria. i dont have the time to explain in detail why this is bad, but trust me...it's not a good idea.

xander is a pro a water changes...he can give you some advice.
yeah he mastered this art during his attempt at keeping the cuban gar

most people tell me to put stock water so that there wont be chlorines and other harmful chemicals in the water.

must i apply this every time i change water?

is stock water a form of tap water conditioner? if so...definitely use that. if you are not using water conditioner, i would strongly suggest that you do.

no, no, its like putting a water in a container and leaving it there for a day or so for the harmful chemicals to subside. but i use aqutan too whenever i change water.

let's simplify this...when you do a water change:

1. gravel vac the bottom and remove 40%-50% of the water.
2. wash filter media in some of the water that you have removed from the tank (to preserve the beneficial bacteria).
3. mix water and tapwater conditioner together, then add to tank (make sure the temp of the new water matches that of the water still in the tank).
4. clean up the mess and enjoy...
