My silver aro is very skittish, not too crazy but it is annoying. All my other fish (in other tanks) swim up to the top to feed and the lame aro is terrified of everything. I put a new plant in yesterday on the far side of the tank so he is less likely to hit the glass and now he is just terrified of that side of the tank. I had to trim plants on the other side of the tank so he had to go over and deal with it. Well he insisted on freaking out and splashing all over like an idiot. He still eats well and is fine but his skittish attitude is really starting to annoy me. Someone comes over and I tell them to approach the tank slow and he still freaks and darts to one side. Does this go away or are they like this forever?

Silver aros do tend to startle easily. If you put him in a large tank this will greatly diminish.
KNH

He should eventually grow out of it.

KNH - Yes, I am finding that out the hard way, as for the tank if I keep him (most likely will as I never get rid of fish but he is kinda of pissing me off with his craptastic skittish attitude at the moment) I'll get him a bigger tank (8ft) but at 5" in a 48" x 18" x 21" tank he has tons of room, not sure how anything larger would help at the moment... It's nearly 10x his body length, much more than can be said for the 2+ft Aros in 6ft tanks.

Dragonfish - Thanks I hope so.

well many fish are like that my aro is skittish but I don´t mind since it is my favorite fish but I have a bala shark and he does piss me off when he gets scared when I walk near him

the silvers i know aren't usually but my jardini is really a wuss. Here he is at about 12".

Before he was that big I use to have him in a 55 gallon and had covered the whole tank with cut up grocery bag so his walls weren't clear. It was ok. I think if it was located in my room that would've helped a lot.... But to be honest right now 1 on 1 with him hes pretty cool and I enjoy taking care of it.

But it looks like he'll eventually out grow it or maybe just hurt himself to bad cause aros will become powerful if they last.

Thanks for the info, keep it coming. It's seeming like it's normal and that bums me out. If by the time he is big enough to need a new home he still acts like a jerk I may have to sell him or trade him at the LFS, I really like him but this nuts. I am not going to spend thousands of dollars for a huge tank for a fish that just acts like a moron all the time no matter how cool they are. :(

You gotta remember...this is a 5 inch fish........a mere infant in human standards.....of course it's skittish and wary something might wanna eat it.......Eventually once he is about a foot or so he will calm down and about a foot and a half once it starts to put on girth.....it will definately be the king you want it to be. ;)
