Is it bad luck to name your fish???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I do correllate naming with death or misfortune, yes.

I no longer name any fish . . . makes it less personal when they (inevitably) die . . .

True..............

Any others i want in depth background stories too............a little bit more than " I called my birchir falkor coz he's white........................."

I don't think its bad luck at all. I usually take at least a month to come up with a name that fits the fish, that is if my girlfriend doesn't name it first.

My gf told me it was bad luck, idk is it really a superstition?????

Mere coincidence.:grinyes: Only reason people fear naming their fish is naming fish drives their attachment towards it and think their fish died because of the name.

Most people that "breed" fish in 1 gallon bowl name their fish. Sometimes i see people naming their Bettas, but I agree with this opinion:

I've only ever named goldfish, bichir, ropefish, and plecos... basically anything that has the potential to live longer than a dog or cat.

I want to keep an American eel (Anguilla rostrata) so it can outlive me...

I name my fish Elmo, Cookie Monster, Big Bird, Oscar etc etc etc...I go by how their attitude and personality then there goes his/her name :D
