Is it possible to keep a betta in a 55 gallon tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
do it they're sweet
mine had so much personalty it would see something in the gravel look down show off all its fins and then try and squeeze between the gravel she was pretty active

I don't keep my beta in anything huge just a 3gallon eclipse with some snails. But hes so cool that I'm think about setting him up in a spare 10g with some girly friends :] I keep a 5g bucket outside in my yard to collet rain water and I net it once a week for mosquito larva for him and he loves hunting them its fun to watch. Betas were my first fish and I think I will always own one. But to the point bigger is always better (depending on tank mates)

I had one in my 55 gallon once and it did just fine.

currently swimming around in a 12 gallong long with breeding kribensis.
kinda funny to see him and one of the kribs start to flare at each other, but it's heavy in decorations and they tend to stay away from each other most days, they cross paths maybe once a fortnight to what i see.
the bucket outside for the mosquito larva sounds like it good be fun, once i get better lights set up i'm planting it and he can have some females then :)

bettas are kept in pet stores in tiny cups that they can hardley move i am highly against this but if betta has been youst to being cramped then put in 55 it would be greatly stressed and could die bettas should not be in unfilterd bowls i personaly allways keep mine in 2g plastic critter keepers with an air droven filter i normaly skip the heater as my fish room is kept at a constant 25 degries
wild bettas are not brightly coloured and do not have long flowing fine the pet shop bettas are targets in a community aquarium wen i first got into fish keeping i put a betta in with 5 head and tail glowlights and 5 danios the head and tail glow lights attacked the betta and it died some people have had look keeping them in community aquariums but i think its to much of a risk
allso bettas can do damage to fish with a lot of coloure or with long fins such as long fined danios guppys are a definate threat
people allways make out that bettas are tougth fish but i find them to be very fragile and not very hardy
if you want to take the risk and add it to the 55 whitch i defenatly wouldnt i would add it to a 10g then 20g to get it youst to swimming frealy and it would be less stressed you could eaven use filterd storage boxes if you havent got 10 & 20g aquariums spar
but its a risk that some people choose to take some times it works but some times it doesnt

can i allso sugest making a brine shrimp hatchery newly hatched brine make exelent food for bettas and i no there salt water but all you do is filter the brine through a pice of cloth (net) and wash them under the tap it doesnt kill them straight away so there still alive wen you feed them to the fish

I get ghost shrimp and mosquito fish from my ponds so no worries with feedings

I had mine in my boyfriends 55g tank and the betta loved it, bettas just don't like a lot of current, they like to chill and not be forced around. :)
