To me it sounds like you're fishing for someone to say "Your pacu is ok in the 55g" when in reality, no ones going to say that, it should've been moved out long ago. The fact that the pacu had a hissy fit is a real sign that its current home is unsuitable.

The feedback everyone has been giving is
1) Get a larger temp place for it to live
2) Get that pond up and running ASAP

For now you could go to Toys R Us and buy a Slip-N-Slide baby pool and then get some pond safety netting, and make a temporary holding pond for your pacu.

I have a Slip-N-Slide which I got for about $80.
