IS IT TRUE THAT THEY ARE NOT GOING TO BE ALLOWED TO SELL AROWANAS BY 2009 BECAUSE ITS ALMOST IN EXTICTION
TODAY I WENT TO 2 AQUARIUMS NEARBY AND THEY 4 INCH AROS ARE 79 BUCKS
I BOUGHT MINE FOR 40 BUCKS WHEN IT WAS 5 INCHES ABOUT 4 MONTHS AGO :eek:

no...silver arrowanas are NOT almost in extinction, neither are the african aros. The only ones even close to extinction are asian aros and they dont affect you since you're in the states...

yeah..... the silvers are pretty much in abundance.......

Asian aros are being bred in farms throughout asia. If anything, I have noticed a price drop here in Canada as they are becoming more popular (still really expensive). I am working up the courage to buy a Dynamic Red aro (supposed to be redder than a chili red). He is about 5" and costs $1200 (I paid $1000 for my HBRTG about a year ago).

I don't believe that Asian Aros will going to extiction...
Many of the Aro farms in my country are always mass "production" the Asian Aros, and soon there are going to got more farms to breed Asian Aros.
With this mass "production", how come the Asian Aros will going to extiction?

And thier price are getting cheaper and cheaper...for example:last 5 years a RTG will cost around RM1000-1200, and now cost RM600-700 only.

true that....:iagree:

They could quite easily become extinct in habitat, and the fish being bred for the hobby are selectively bred colour strains, not "wild types".

The wild types is stil under protected, so we are not allow to get any 1 of them...but i think the selectively aro types from farm breed are more than enough, such as Red, Xback, Hi-back, RTG, banjar red / 1.5red, yellow tail and green...but not for Nami Green Aro, haha.

Many of the small farms here produce the Asian Aros and sold them in our market without any ic tagged and cert.

Yup, unfortunetely the amount of Xback golden in the wild are very less now, but not for green aro.

Your LFS will propably was trying to sell you a silver at higher price by making up stories about aro goes extinct.

But then again in any LFS prices are higher to accomodate for retail expenses..

There are no MSRP (manufacture suggested retail price) for fish..every LFS makes up it's own profit margin and its own prices..it all depends on their suppliers and etc..

Where did you buy your 5" for $ 40 4 months ago ? from an individual ?
If you got it from LFS, did you go to the same LFS today ?
