I have a guy that wants to sell me a 220 gallon friday for $100 the only problem is the tank needs resealed. do you think it would be worth it to take on this project or am i going to end up with 220 gallons of water on my floor?

my plan is to double brace it after i seal it with some think polycarbonate sheets or abs plastic sealing it with some plastic resin to the seams.

Will this work??

Well the way I look at it is this. Just one sheet of that glass is worth $275-350. At least near me. I built my plywood tank using a similar deal and size tank.

And in rtv to re-seal that, maybe $50?

So it's just a matter of how much time you have or can make. In my opinion, the worst part of that process is cleaning off all the old silicone.

I can get 100% aquarium safe silicone for maybe $6 a tube.

I'm just worried about longevity really. I know if I can get the tank and repair properly it will be worth it. When I say is it worth it, I mean is it going to be worth it to by it and fix it or is it just going to spring a leak again in a year or two or worse case scenario completely bust.

By the way hows that tank coming along haven't got any notifications on that post in a little while.

If you clean it properly and silicone properly, it will in fact not leak. But only you know your abilities or confidence in that.

My tanks doing fine. Just sitting there with water in it haha. I'm finishing the room currently so it has to be positive t aside until I finish that. Painting walls today, then flooring, then trim. Then some other things... then back to the tank haha. But it doesnt leak and hasn't fallen through the floor, so I can't ask for anything else right now.

What more can you ask for from a large tank build haha

And just to be clear, I wasn't trying to be a smart a with the "only you know" comment. I hate when folks try to get keyboard tuff. My opinion is just that, my opinion. but unless you really need that $100 elsewhere, I'd buy it, separate glass, and put in a safe place until you have the time or plans to do something. It's a good investment if you know you'd like a larger or extra tank at some point

Should be worth it. As already mentioned....needs proper cleaning and if done right wont need to be resealed again for years.

You're all good man. but i wouldnt mind having the larger tank right now haha

Well I just might take the dive on this one.. I really wanted to save up some money this is a hard deal to pass up because its the exact size tank i am looking for (actually a little bigger).

Keep in the garage after the reseal and see how it holds up. May need to be resealed but if done right it’ll be worth the effort.
