is my bass sick ?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I said yesyerday use Maracy-two it's a broad spectrum antibiotic. The blood streaks in and at the base of the fin is sign of hemorrhagic septicemia a bacterial infection of the blood. Keep the fish in the present tank and start treatment. Dose according to the instructions on the package and keep the water as clean as possibile during treatment.

well the thing is for the tank he is in, is 140g and that is a BIG dose of meds and much more expensive then having him in a smaller tank to med/treat...

Then put him in a smaller tank with and established filter. Keep the water clean and start treatment.

called the store im heading to and asked if they had maracyn 2 and she said no but asked what i was treating and i couldnt pornounce it and she said what you think he has the blood infection and she said they have a different med there that says right on that it treats it but cant member the name ... but it made by API will any med work that says the diagnosis you gave work to cure him or help ?actually this is what she said she has that should work for him ... TETRACYCLINE HYDROCHLORIDE-

Use it.

See what it says. Check out how much volume one package treats and for how long. I would treat at least a week or two according to the intructions on the package.

First off, if your bass hasn't been eating for awhile, I would first treat the bass with prazi-pro.

It looks like your bass is suffering a bad case of malnutrition. Thus the red marks on the base of the pectoral fins. And the "curling" on the bottom.

After a week of treating with prazi, clean water, then try and feeding him FEEDERS!!! If he doesn't take, force feed that bad boy.

Check out my old thread "long road ahead" and you see the progression I made with three bass worse then yours.

Why do you suggest feeders as opposed to a quality pellet? If you are going to force feed it. I don't disagree with yoru assement and honestly because of the lenght of time he had the fish and based on the questions I asked I didn't consider IP's which could be a viable condition. I'm not a doctor so I could be wrong. I wish you chimed in earlier. I just don't think feeders are they way to go, I would not run the risk at this point.

That is your opinion of feeders. If the bass isn't eating anything, then feeders would be best. Most cichla don't always eat pellets off the jump. And feeding feeders will loosen up the muscles that it isnt being used while sitting on the bottom of the tank for days on end, and plus, after a while the bass belly will shrink if it isn't eating.

Yes you are correct, that is my opinion on feeders. If you are going to force feed it, feed it a pellet. A store bought feeder is inviting more trouble, I wouldn't do it.
