Is my GT a Male?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I noticed that in every GT pic I see, the GT's spots on the sides are black. The spots on mine are both white. Is this normal?

Not sure what or where that is. If you explain I'll try to get pics of that area

Also what kind of fish is in your avatar? Looks like a flowerhorn or Trimac without the dark side markings...very cool! :headbang2

It is a Super Red Syn Flower Horn.
genital papilla is their breeding tubes or their sex organs
it is located near anal fins.

In mine, it changes based on mood.

Does his hole color change too? The day after I got him he changed to a dull orange and has een that way ever since.

Do weekly water changes, watch your parimeters and get your fish on a good diet and you'll notice drasitic changes in color. I used to do one if not two water changes weekly...I've been slacking off only doing them once every 2 or three weeks and my GT's color has dulled down big time.

I do em once a week to both tanks. Could it also be that he isnt the most agressive in there? My conxseverum is.

I change water every week too.

Since I've started feeding Krill, it has helped "Reggie" color up a lot too. Vary the diet like the others have said. during a normal week I feed a couple "helpings" of each of these:

Earthworms
Hikari Gold Cichlid food (pink pellets)
Freeze dried Krill
Hikari cichlid staple (Green pellets)
Algae Wafers

I pick two each day and feed them both kinds at the same time. have gone from 2x per day to 1x per day feeding. Water is much cleaner and they act more lively too. but they PIG out when its feedin time

Hey everybody, my GT grew a hump. First time I've seen it on him/her. Now...since almost everyone thinks it's a female according to the replies, do both sexes get a Hump on their head?

The king of this tank is the big Pleco who bosses the female JD (6") around and kicks her outta hiding areas etc. The GT is next in line behind the JD, and has put on enough bulk that it was challenging the JD this weekend.

What do you think? It's getting smaller but is still noticeable. I'll try for some pics tonight.

Looks female to me, but if it grew a hump then it's a male.
