Thanks Mysterious

Ok cool. What size tank have you had your beast in for the last 4yrs?

When I first got him he was 4" he went in a 55 gallon for like 2 months. Then i got him a 120 5'x20". He got introduced to a female had been raising. They spawned a few times. Got tired of that gave here her own tank and got him a 200 gallon. He's been in there for like 2 years now i think.
Here's a pic of him from about month ago.

I think you have a male.

Wow! that truly is 1big dovii..lol awesome blue on his top fin too

Any advice you could share for raising a male? I keep temp around 80deg, lots of water changes w/ prime, and I feed him NLS about 3x a day.

I keep my 12-13 inch male at 77 degrees and feed him once a day with hikari gold. brine shrimp once a week. Here is a pick I snapped the other day. I need to get a better one!

Wild caught from Jeff rapps although the person I bought it from did not remember the river :(

Thanks alot. NLS is good mine never would but loves hakari sticks. Throw in some krill, nightcrawlers, maybe frozen silversides when he gets larger and you'll have a monster in no time. Long as you got big enough tank and filteration your set. My males tank and his sons tank both get 2x 70% water changes a week, a little much but worth it. Word of caution work on your reflexes cleaning the tank gets to be a game of avoid the dovii when larger.:D You will love it they are very interactive and smart. I will always keep dovii. Good luck with yours and keep us updated.

Sweet, I have some hikari krill Ill start feeding him as a treat.
Once I have his 120 and fx5 setup im sure he will start to grow fast.
And thats alot of water changes! lol im assuming you use a python hose to clean out 70% each time? Im thinkin about getting that..
Thanks for the tips, and ill make sure to play the game "avoid the dovii" :)

Yup only once a day. I made a thread about people's feeding habits w dovii a bit back. I would post the link but on my phone right now. Less feeding less waste less work less money. Gone from 9 inches to over 12 in about 3 months. 30% wc a week, but usually don't even need to do it that often.

Lol and i don't feed brine shrimp I feed frozen krill.

It looks like a male to me. I think I can see spotting in the unpaired fins.....that is the best way to tell. Maybe with the eye you can see the spotting a little better.

My male is 17" and I have had him for close to three years, he was a fry when I got him. He started out in a 38 gal, then a 125 gal and now he is in a 180 gal....soon he is going in a 360 gal.

They grow like weeds up to 9" or so and start slow a little. After 12” they start to bulk up a lot. Feed him a diet high in protein. I feed mine Hikari bio gold +, massivore, krill and raw shrimp.

Good luck.
