Is my TANK on CRACK?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My Oscar is 14 inches and i know that if i took him out of his 75 and put him in a 55 that he would not be happy. Well he could not properly turn around. Seriously fish need space.

Well not nearly as happy as an Oscar in a 70 gallon.

+1 just because you have kept an oscar in a 55 gallon tank for its whole life does not mean it was happy bet it looked huge in there!!!

err.. unless you can speak to fish...you should use the word "ideal".
There are people that had two oscars breed in 75 gal lol...fish dont breed if unhappy.

but anyway.. off course ill be upgrading by next year. im just waiting to move. so my two oscars and gt shud be fine hopefully...

added the silver dollars they look so nervous lol..will do water test tonight.

BTW shud i start adding the other fish every two days or by weekly intervals?

Lol not always, you would be surprised at some conditions fish will spawn in. By the time you upgrade you Oscars will be stunted more than likely. Just because one person can do something doesn't mean they should....

oh I agree, but if your saying an oscar will outgrow a 60 gallon tank, in 7-12 months...its new to me...never have I seen this happen for 1.5-2inch oscars. I do know, they hit around 7 inches or so in a year, and then growth slows down. Also, it is hard to generalize since not all fish have same growth rate, even if they are oscars.

I have kept flowerhorns, which aslo have very similiar growth rate to an O. Had to get him a new tank after 7 months...and I did :)

And I don't know I was reading an article on Marine Psychology ages ago...and I remember it saying "Animals do not breed in CAPTIVITY if conditions are not to their expectations".
