Is my vet bsing me?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Try another vet. There are plenty of vets that love to bs and love to make money. It's just a matter time before they tell you to buy their crap dog food.

Being in the veterinary field - I can tell you that most vets are truly not out for your money. I'm an emergency tech - so I get to be the bad person and tell people that their dog needs a $4000 bloat surgery, or a $3000 exploratory. But guess what? We have overhead. We have employees. We have bills. We cannot work for free. So yeah - there are fees. And as I said before - nothing is cut and dry. This is a 13 year old (geriatric) intact (still has balls) dog. DO you know the differentials on that?! It's insane!
And as far as the food - I cannot speak for each vet, but I can speak for the need & uses of the prescription diets. Those diets can save lives & boatloads of cash - such as the C/D or SO diet that can dissolve a dog/cats bladder crystals and stones. Or Y/D that can regulate a cats thyroid hormone so that you don't have to do very costly reactive iodine treatments.

You can - I know that we have referral relationships, and some clients need permission to come to us from other vets. If you do go to another hospital - make sure you have all records faxed unless you want to start over with diagnostic tests.

Hills is a great brand that is actually researched & produced by both veterinarians & veterinary nutritionists. There's a reason why it's so expensive. You get what you pay for. Alpo & 'Ol Roy? Thats equivalent to you eating pizza and potato chips you're entire life.

Sorry, just seeing this now.
Its kind of funny that you say that. i had asked her if there was a food she would recommend for my dog, but told me she didnt really have a recommendation. I thought that was kind of odd and now that i think about it, its making me want to try a new vet even more

Hills, for the most part, is total garbage. Expensive cheap dog food.
