I think everyone in this situation is being a little ridiculous. First off, shaving the kids head? Really... Who cares. It'll grow back. Also, many of the articles said it was cut short. Not shaved. But... Whatever.
Calling her John, if the parents want to do that then so be it. But they shouldn't force the school to do so. The parents also shouldn't
assume their daughter is transgender simply based on their life experiences. Which is what I assume they did. It's a little hard to blame them for bein supportive. Being homosexual isn't easy and a lot of them feel they've known since they were children but had no one to turn to.
The two women should've simply humored the girl for a couple days until she got over it. But I think they got a little too worked up over the current homosexual hype because of the legalization of same sex marriage and Bruce Jenner(I don't remember her new name). In one of their interviews, one of them said she "took a stance, first off because of my beliefs. I trust God."... How about the kid was just being a dumb kid and didn't need God?

I think everyone in this situation should be slapped across the face.

Hello; How about using the name on the birth certificate or if the name had been changed legally using whatever legal name the child has. I do not agree with why staff was fired for not using a made up name, as long as they used the legal name. Was the name changed legally?

I think it is two men who adopted a young girl.

OK, I get the "have a belief" point of view. We each have beliefs and points of view. The deal for me was to keep quiet about my beliefs in a workplace or other public situation like college classes. I have worked and taken classes with people of many varied beliefs. The point was to get on with the job at hand or the class study. When I worked the log woods or installed carpet or taught a biology class there was no place nor any practical reason to inject my personal beliefs into the situation.

I don't agree with them getting fired. But if these ladies have experience with children they should know the kid would've got over it.
I don't think they should've lost their jobs.
But do still think everyone was being a little over the top.

The thing is I don't think it was the girl's doing so much as the two guys('fathers').

Also about the head shaving vs just a hair cut. I first heard this on the radio and they were the one's that mentioned her head was shaved.

I think my first post sums up my thoughts on this pretty well.
There is still a lot of the story missing from all the articles I read.
But assuming the parents were really pressing it this issue, they shouldn't have. The kid was just being a kid. Slap them.
And the daycare people should've smiled and said "oh kids are silly sometimes." Called her John and used their experience with children know the kid would've been over it in a few days. Slap them.

Hello; maybe I missed something? It does not seem likely that a six year old child would push things to the point of getting daycare workers fired. I am assuming the adoptive parents pushed the thing to the point of this causing them to be fired. Very much seems like an agenda taking advantage of the child as an excuse to rub our noses in their thinking.

Tbh the teachers getting fired could have been an overreaction to the situation by the school as a way of showing they aren't homophobic, and while I agree this all seems over the top, the teachers point blank refusing to acknowledge this girl wanting to be addressed as a boy is wrong, as a teacher they should keep there personal beliefs out of the classroom. Only if the child was in danger or it was stipulated that the father's forced the girl to shave her head and call herself johnny should the teachers have intervened. And why is it a big deal if she shaved her head, if that was her choice let her go with it, and if she regrets it then she will learn a lesson. Point is kids say and do stupid stuff, but we should let them, to an extent, be who they want to be, there's far too much pressure for people to act and be seen as everyone else, children are the few people who truly have there own identities. As far as I'm concerned, unless this child was forced to do this then its all harmless fun that this overly PC world took the wrong way and its been made a big deal cause she's being raised by 2 men. The sad thing is if this was the child's choice and the father's were only doing what they thought was best some people who object to homosexuals having children will use this as a reason not to allow same sex couples have children.

I think some of the people who run the schools are nuts,I just saw on the news that an elementary school student was threatened with being charged with sexual harassment for the heinous crime of passing another student a love note. The note wasn't even sexual in nature, just,I like you, you are pretty, kind of stuff.

I'm not very liberal and pretty much old school in my thoughts. If you're born a male you're a male for life. If you're female you're a female for life, no grey area. All this, everything is OK don't offend anyone, kumbaya singing crap is for the birds.

Oh and I forgot, you'll NEVER here me say Happy Holidays. I say Merry Christmas to everyone, get over it.
