The petco nearest to me, in Dubuque, IA. Just closed down their fish department, they're just selling small pets and accessories. But there is a petsmart on the other end of town. A few of the Walmart's have been closing their fish department's lately around here too. I'm glad for the fish's sake, but I would bet the prices at the LFS will go up... But hey at the Lake Geneva Walmart, when they closed the live fish department, they did a silent auction for the whole tank/filtration setup, I wish I had room for that!
I see more Petsmart than Petcos. I only know of maybe 4 or 5 in a 30 mile radius while there are tons of Petsmart around.
What store will close Jan 26? I worked for Petco in Bloomfield. Like someone said above, they are closing the stores that are losing money. Then they plan to open new ones in other cities. The company as a whole recently went from being publicly owned to just 2 owners so a lot was being changed to help them get back to being number one in the pet industry. Obviously Petsmart is number one!
i work for petco but havent heard anything about other stores, quite frankly i wouldnt be upset if my store closed down. Petsmart is literally a block away. There store is cleaner/better in many different ways but wouldnt hire me when i needed a job. most of the newer stores as someone has stated are much much much better than the old ones (like mine) maybe opening more new ones is a great idea!
petco sucks for fish anyway. Petsmart has the most fish I have seen in a fish store. Petland and a private shop come in 2nd. Although private has more exotic
