That is one of the signs that's he is interested. Both of them should start getting thier breeding colors, some chasing also be ready for a fight. Females won't breed with male's they can beat up.

I wouldn't (pic cat). I have found that plecos can go with almost anything.

Depends on the temperament of the jd... my female beat the crap out of everything and anything she was with until I brought her home a male

Yes to the clay pot, make sure it's big enought for Rocky to get in to fertilize the eggs. But also make a cave/retreat for the female to get away from the male and rest. If she does like him and decides to spawn she will need some time to actually grow the eggs to lay them. This takes a few days.
